[in]complete phrasings

So this is the little interlude bit used in K-ON. It’s deceptively simple, just a few notes ascending stepwise, that is, one note at a time as opposed to skipping over several notes:

You could say that this is based off the F major scale, which contains only one flat:

But because the set of notes used in the K-ON thing is a little less than ambiguous (because of those pesky intervals), it leaves little room for interpretation as a flittly thingy in G dorian. Nevertheless, because the G did not descend down to F or ascend to A (both notes within the F major chord, F A C) you could still hear it as G dorian. Here is a hypothetical way to end this thing in F major.


And a hypothetical way to end in G dorian.

[ok...maybe that sounds more like G minor, which is two flats, but eh]
